Many roads lead to Koh Tao. And once you are here, we will pick you up from the pier - so don't worry, you will find us :)
The small tropical island of Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand, near the Thai east coast is the most northern island of the three, adjacent islands of Koh Tao - Koh Phangan - Koh Samui. To get here you have the following options:
Coming From Bangkok
By plane
To Koh Samui : Very fast and relaxed but probably also the most expensive way
Flight costs are depending on the day and season. From Koh Samui there are several ferries to Koh Tao. The most reliable are
The current schedule can be found on the websites. A crossing takes approximately 90 to 120 minutes and the ferries cost around 500 THB.
To Surrathani : The flight to Surat Thani Airport is generally cheaper than to Koh Samui Airport. However, the Surat Thani airport is a little further away from Koh Tao, so you have to take a shuttle bus to the ferry-pier.
Tickets for the shuttle bus are available directly at the airport and also include the ferry ticket for about 500 THB.
To Chumphon : NEW! The small airline http://www.solarair.co.th is Lomprayah (the best ferry in Thailand) owned and now offers direct flights to Chumphon (very close to Koh Tao). From Chumphon you can easily take a ferry.
By train
To Surat Thani : A truly relaxing way to travel is the night train from Hualamphong Station in Bangkok. Just book online or a few days in advance at the train station.
By bus
This is the cheapest way to get here . On "Khao San Road" in Bangkok just buy a “joint ticket”. This includes the bus and the ferry (see ferry websites above) from the mainland. our recommendation is to take a night bus, so you can sleep in the air-conditioned bus and spend your time dreaming of Koh Tao. A joint ticket shouldn’t cost more than 1000 THB. Pay attention to book a VIP bus and no minibus. The mini buses are far more uncomfortable.
From the south or west
If you've already come this far, you know how to travel safely, good and cheap. Everywhere in the south, the west and on all islands, “joint tickets” are available to Koh Tao. These include the Bus ticket and also the ferry (for ferry websites, see above).
Alternatively, there are also flights to Surat Thani or Koh Samui from many airports .
Anyway – However you get to diving paradise (any small travel agency in Thailand and neighboring countries can provide you a cheap way here) - we wish you a good and safe trip to Koh Tao !
